9:16 pm - Hello! and Questions!

Hello everyone! I am an aspiring actor and voice actor who is looking to get ANYTHING, and voice acting has always been of great interest to me. However, I am currently going to graduate school in the middle of nowhere and i'm looking for a little help with some questions ^_^

I have looked at some of the past entries, and it seems to me that it is just about calling major studios and asking about auditions... is this a correct assumption? If so, what are some of them? I'm pretty clueless in this area.

Second, would you say it would be important to go to Anime Expo? Can you make connections there for voice acting?

Thank very much for any help you can give me. I'm looking forward to hearing from any of you and your experiences as well!

12:09 am - A congratulations!

This is technically OT, but being as we're a small community, and I'm the freakin' moderator, I can do this... haha!

I'd like to extend congratulations to two very nifty VAs on their recent engagement. I don't think I ever knew Nikki (being as you're not Nikkita... unless you are... in which case... I'm a flake), but I did know Tamtu at one point. And as such! I, and I'm sure the rest of the VA community, retired and active, wish you both a very, very happy engagement and life together.

And with that, we'll lapse back into silence! ^_~ HUZZAH!

6:36 pm - Going Professional?

Greetings! ^_^

Let's see...I've had my share of AVA-ing way back in the day. I am currently a Broadcasting major, and I am currently considering doing professional voice acting work on the side. I do know Bang Zoom in Burbank, and one of the producers knows who I am through Anime Expo Idol.

I would like to know how to get started doing a demo reel. What makes or breaks a demo reel? How long should they be? Preffered format? Any need for headshots? etc. Any tips or advice about breaking into the professional scene would be very much appreciated! ^_^

Oh, and since I'm posting over here, I always like hearing back from AVAs from the days of old. My email address is therose@sfsu.edu should you want to keep in touch. Hope we can soon...

8:35 pm - Moderator post

These rules have ONLY been in effect since two-thousand-and-fucking-one. There is NO reason we should see ANY auditions in this community. Holly made this rule over four fucking years ago. PLEASE FOLLOW IT.

Everyone needs to know these rules. Know them, love them, live them. THEY ARE NOT THAT HARD. But when I see two audition posts by two different people, basically in a row, I have to say something.

I think it's really awesome how there are places to go for aspiring voice actors on the net be it FLAVA, VAA, and now I find this community! It's just really awesome! I use to do voice acting onlinewith fan dubs and such for about two years. I went to Anime Expo and won AX IDOL 2004! Which is a singing and voice acting contest! I went with singing because that has always been my first love and got a record deal with Geneon and I'VE! Now four of my tracks are featured on Anime Karaoke Collection cd which is sold at all major record stores! Since the cd has come out (JULY OF THIS YEAR) I have been working hard and have become determined to do what ever I can in the Anime Industry! Well a opportunity came up with Broccoli and I auditioned for a singing group called DUP! Which is for the series DI GI Charat! I auditioned for Rabi En Rose! I treated the audition like a voice acting audition. I got the part and now I am gonna perform with DUP at PMX in Long Beach!

Broccoli told me that they might have other voice acting auditions coming up! So I will keep everyone posted on here! You can add me if ya want!

I heard that there are 7 different areas of your voice that you can control. Does anyone know all 7 and know how to control them?

10:45 am - Etna!

So I'm replaying Disgaea: Hour of Darkness for the PS2, and I never noticed until now how great Etna was at voice acting.

BTW, what's a good college to go to for voice acting? (Preferably in Michigan ^_^)

10:52 pm - Crazy Cool

Hello. My name is Eric, and I'm 16 enjoying my summer vacation. I haven't officially voice acted, but I catch myself doing totally different voices for each character I act as, for instance Seymour Krelborn as opposed to Harold Gorringe (in 'Black Comedy').

How important is it to be able to sing in the voice acting industry?

3:34 pm - Amateur Voice Acting Wiki

I began work on this yesterday on a whim and did the majority of it from memory of conversations I've had with people like Tom about the subject. So here's a Wikipedia entry on the Amateur Voice Acting community and it's history. Feel free to add in things that I missed or edit points that I got wrong.

Otherwise, I hope this turned out pretty well!

Heya people! I finally figured out how to join -_- I'm so stupid hehe. Let me introduce myself! I'm Iris, aspiring voice actress since I've been like 8 years old, hehe. Also I do have a knack for it because I went around playing all these different characters who were talking together when I was a small kid, so I kinda learned how to do different voices that way. (Yeah I was a lonely kid -_-")
So I'm 19 now and still an aspiring voice actress, though because of the voice stuff I've done online in English I'm used to that right now and Dutch voice acting doesn't really work for me. Besides, I used to love Dutch dubs when I was younger, but now I hate it so much. So I'd rather go to America and Canada for that. BUT I live all the way in Holland.. and in Holland there are no voice acting classes or whatnot..so I've got no chance of chasing my "dream"- or "need" which is more accurate- and the only thing I can do is take acting classes, and even though that's important, it won't get me anywhere in voice acting if I take only those. And living here won't get me anywhere either -_-.. So I just pass my boredom and waste my time by making stuff like this http://www.angelfire.com/crazy/nonsence/gayranma.WMV
BAH.. sometimes I really hate living here. Well.. it's no fun anyway, not even when I'm ok with it. Boring country.. -_-"

11:52 pm - Hello

Well, as someone leaves someone new arrives! I'm currently amateur only because I haven't been looking for an agency. I've got about 2 years of schooling at San Francisco's Voice Factory under my belt. Anyone have any sites they'd recommend for amateur voice acting?

5:15 pm - The mod puts her foot down.

Dear members of avoicea,

This is a community to discuss voice acting, amateur or pro, since we have both among our ranks. This can also be a place for the older AVAs to catch up with each other (some of us have been around for six years or more but haven't acted in three or so) and exchange info.

What this is NOT a place for is to spam us with your iPod pyramid schemes. If I see another one, I will do exactly as I did with the one that was posted today: delete it and mark it as spam, which reports it to the LiveJournal administration.

I repeat: Do NOT spam this community. You will not like the consequences.

3:44 pm - Question.. again..

Hey everyone, I'd like to know if anyone knows if they have any places in Canada where you can persue a voice acting career for cartoons. If anyone knows any, could you please let me know? I'd love that.
Thanks much,
